Twice

Arunabh Satpathy is a 21-year old law student from Delhi who is originally Oriya. In his spare time, he enjoys playing bass, writing poetry and articles on rock music and automobiles.

The next time you look at me,
look again and look twice.
The next time you talk to me,
speak again and speak twice.

It doesn’t matter what you think I am,
Doesn’t really matter who I should be.
It can all change in a flash of a second,
And you won’t be able to recognise me.

Darkness is around every corner,
Seldom alone does reason run.
Hatred might cloud my every decision,
sense might lose, just this once.

So the next time you do decide,
decide again and decide twice.
Is it that which made you tell that lie?
Ask again, do ask twice.

It doesn’t matter what I think you are.
Doesn’t matter what you are to me.
It can all change in the blink of an eye,
And years of knowing you will crumble instantly.

Paranoia might just be round somewhere,
waiting to break your cut-glass vanity.
So far you slept, and now are awake
wider than ever to this insanity.

The logic of it becomes undeniable,
Swimming in seas of no wrong, no right.
It all just seems truer than true
as our morbid fantasies burn alight.

It’s all too close, just a second away.
Look around you, what sense does this make?
You know you long for that subliminal clarity,
No obligations, no niceness, no expectations to fake.

Inside, we all suppress that delicious ambrosia,
poisoned darts of sugar and spice
That wait in malice to burst forth when we don’t –
Think again, or think twice.
